PRAYER FOR THE BEATIFICATION OF MOTHER CATHERINE MCAULEY

Loving God, You chose Catherine McAuley for the service of your people who are poor, sick and uneducated. You inspired her to found the Sisters of Mercy so that these good works might endure. Give to each of us a portion of her compassionate spirit and an ardent desire to serve your suffering people.

Bless all our undertakings and grant that union and charity may always thrive among us.

Graciously, hear our prayer for Catherine and by granting the favors we ask through her intercession, hasten the day when her sanctity will be celebrated by all the Church. Amen.

A WALK TO REMEMBER

By Sister Mary Cabrini Taitano, RSM

On September 20, 2014, in anticipation and solidarity with the People’s Climate March in New York, the Guam350.org, the Sisters of Mercy Justice Committee, in collaboration with the Tamuning village mayor, held “A Walk to Remember” march from Tamuning Elementary School baseball field to Ipao Beach. The early morning event opened with a cry for justice for our earth expressed in prayer and song. The organizers of the event invited all Mercy administered schools and Father Duenas Memorial High School as well as other volunteers, to participate in a coconut tree planting event at the Ipao Beach area. The purpose of this event was to promote greater local environmental awareness focused on replacing the coconut trees infested by the rhinoceros beetle. Miss Guam Earth 2015 Skye Baker a senior from the Academy of Our Lady of Guam, joined the group of enthusiastic young students and faculty of the Academy of Our Lady of Guam, Saint Anthony Catholic School, Santa Barbara Catholic School, Father Duenas Memorial School, and other volunteers.
Other coconut-tree planting events at other locations are in the planning process by the same group.
