PRAYER FOR THE BEATIFICATION OF MOTHER CATHERINE MCAULEY

Loving God, You chose Catherine McAuley for the service of your people who are poor, sick and uneducated. You inspired her to found the Sisters of Mercy so that these good works might endure. Give to each of us a portion of her compassionate spirit and an ardent desire to serve your suffering people.

Bless all our undertakings and grant that union and charity may always thrive among us.

Graciously, hear our prayer for Catherine and by granting the favors we ask through her intercession, hasten the day when her sanctity will be celebrated by all the Church. Amen.

Golden Jubilarian: Sister Agnes Palacios,RSM | You Are Wisdom And Love

SISTER AGNES PALACIOS, RSM
GOLDEN JUBILARIAN – 2013

MOTTO: You Are Wisdom And Love

It’s not hard to believe that the young girl of seven who used to yearn to be a Sister whenever she passed by Tai Convent has actually lived as a Sister of Mercy for fifty years!  Agnes Salas Palacios, daughter of Ramon and Dolores Palacios, both deceased, has seven siblings, three of whom are also deceased.

Sister Agnes entered the Sisters of Mercy on Guam on August 17, 1963 and took on the name of “Sister Joachim” as a novice, changing to her current name years later when the Community gave Sisters this option.  She and two other Sisters were sent to Belmont for novitiate training in 1966, and she  taught for the first time in Asheville, North Carolina.  She returned to Guam in 1969 as a Junior Professed and eventually continued her education at the University of Guam, earning her B.A. in Elementary Education in 1981.  She celebrated her “Silver Jubilee” in August 1989 and is now celebrating her “Golden Jubilee”.

Sister Agnes’ main ministry on Guam has been in Education, having taught in our Mercy schools and nurseries for about 36 years.  But, for the past __ years, Sister has been ministering to our physically-challenged “Manamko” at Mercy Care Center in Tamuning.

What keeps Sister Agnes motivated daily is her “gratitude to God for her vocation in Mercy, gratitude to her Sisters in community, her family and friends for their love, support and encouragement.”  She continues to marvel at Mercy Foundress Catherine McAuley’s great faith in God and her compassion for poor persons.

Sister Agnes is a compassionate person who values simplicity of life.  She enjoys quiet moments, cooking and yoga!  We congratulate Sr. Agnes as she celebrates her Golden Jubilee and thank her for her 50-plus years of service!
