PRAYER FOR THE BEATIFICATION OF MOTHER CATHERINE MCAULEY

Loving God, You chose Catherine McAuley for the service of your people who are poor, sick and uneducated. You inspired her to found the Sisters of Mercy so that these good works might endure. Give to each of us a portion of her compassionate spirit and an ardent desire to serve your suffering people.

Bless all our undertakings and grant that union and charity may always thrive among us.

Graciously, hear our prayer for Catherine and by granting the favors we ask through her intercession, hasten the day when her sanctity will be celebrated by all the Church. Amen.

Moving Forward

On Sunday, September 8, 2013, Sister Mary Rosario Gaite, Vocation Director of the Guam Mercy Community, led the Sisters in a day-long process at the Sister Roberta Center in Tamuning on the topic of religious vocations, dubbed “Moving Forward in Hope: Keys to the Future.”

SMRAfter reviewing their own “vocation story”, the Sisters named the Guam Community’s current reality and explored the opportunities and challenges that they presently face in terms of vocations to the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters reviewed the data from Study on Recent Vocations to Religious Life in the United States conducted by the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC) and Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA). They also viewed a video featuring newer members of religious communities who spoke of their vocations stories, their ministries, and their hope for the future of religious life.

To concretize the day’s process, the Sisters mapped out creative action steps, generated new ideas and innovative approaches to vocation work that will address the four ideas identified as significant for younger religious: Communal living, Eucharist, Communal prayer and Visibility. Energized by the day’s process, the Sisters ended the day with Eucharist and fellowship.
